Meta Tags

We will now discuss meta tags.

Meta tags can be found in page properties.

What are meta tags. Meta tags are a description of your web page from title, keywords and a short description of the page. Meta tags are used by search engines in order when a user is searching for a website either by a keyword , a keyword phase or a small description a web page can be found.

The title meta tag should be no more than 67 character's including spaces and bar's. The title of your page should include one or two of your keywords. Example we will use lets say eagle figurines your title can look like this ( Eagle figurines | Collectible Eagle figurines) This is how a title will appear on top of your browser. So if someone puts in the search bar eagle figurines your web page may come up and a visitor will see your site.

The keyword meta tags, this is where we will put the keywords and keyword phases separated by coma's. You can use up to 25 words or 255 character's including spaces.

If you are not sure of what keywords to use we will discuss this later on after your page is published and the use a meta tag analyzer.

The meta tag description. This meta tags provides a short summary of your web page. You should use up to 25 words or two sentences. You should use your main keyword or keyword phase up to at least two or three times in this description of the web page.

Search engines like google and yahoo no longer uses the keyword meta tags, they will use snippets of the web page. Lots of other smaller search engines still use the keyword meta tag.

Alternate Text

What is alternate text and why it's used for.

Search engines look for alternate text when someone searches the web under images.

In most browsers when you see a image and guide your cursor over it you can see the alternate text appear, you will also see the alternate text when the image has not downloaded yet.

Alternate text is used for images and pictures. You have named your images or photo's and pictures when you have saved it as a file. Most website builder's if you right click it a description box will open up. You will now notice a area for alternate text this is where you will put the name of the image or photo or picture.
